What happens if I lose my device?

If you lose access to the device that holds your wallet, you can restore your wallet on a new device using your account credentials. The MPC key material is reconstructed across your devices, not stored as a single backup file or seed phrase. If you lose access to all your devices and your account credentials, your wallet may become permanently inaccessible. The Right of Life inheritance mechanism is the only path to recovering assets in this case, and only for designated beneficiaries upon proof of death or incapacity.

No. The Wallet is non-custodial. JIL has no operational ability to freeze user assets. Your tokens remain under your control regardless.

Can the government compel JIL to hand over my balance or transaction history?

JIL has limited information about user wallets by design. We do not custody assets. We do not store user balances. Transaction information on JIL L1 is on-chain and available to anyone with the wallet address, the same as any other public blockchain. Beyond on-chain data and limited operational data, JIL has nothing to give to authorities because the architecture does not give it to us in the first place.

When you wrap, you sign a transaction that locks your tokens on the source network in a smart contract bridge, and releases the equivalent amount on JIL L1 to your wallet there. JIL never holds the tokens during this process. After wrapping, your tokens are protected by JIL L1's built-in features (post-quantum security, inheritance, automatic key rotation, pre-clearance attestation).

Wrapping moves tokens between networks (Ethereum to JIL L1) while preserving the same overall ownership. Sending tokens transfers them between different wallets. Both operations are initiated and signed by you. The difference is what happens at the destination: with wrapping, tokens stay yours, just on a different network; with sending, tokens move to a different wallet (which may or may not be yours).

The wallet does not sell tokens. If you want to sell, you would transfer your tokens to an exchange where you have an account (Coinbase, Kraken, MoonPay, or any other exchange that supports JIL). The transfer to the exchange is initiated and signed by you. The sale itself happens at the exchange, where the exchange handles the conversion to fiat, KYC, tax reporting, and banking. JIL is not a party to the sale. We provide the wallet software you use to move your tokens to the exchange.

After our internal compliance checks pass, the transaction is sent to a network of 20 validators distributed across 13+ jurisdictions. Each validator independently re-runs the compliance checks and casts a vote. The transaction is approved only if at least 14 of 20 validators vote yes - a 70% Byzantine Fault Tolerant (BFT) threshold. Even if one or two validators were attacked or coerced, they cannot approve a malicious transaction alone. It takes 14 of them to cooperate, distributed across multiple legal jurisdictions, which is operationally very hard to achieve.

The cryptographic binding uses SHA3-256, a post-quantum-secure hash function.
